Easter is here.
The Miracle of Easter is upon us. In Spain it is celebrated with processions and drums, hooded walkers carrying crosses, pageantry and ceremony. As in Canada, in Catalunya there is less pomp and procession.  Nonetheless,  Easter for me has always been a very special time of the year, second only to the lights and love of Christmas. It has always meant rebirth, flowering plants, trees greenwashed with budding baby leaves, the first robin, the melting of the winter snow, searching for tadpoles and life in cold trickling brooks alongside small, country roads. It´s about possibility and new beginnings.

Unbound

Unused and undiscovered
There is so much for me to learn
That i may be open to look where others scoff and scold
Where others chasten, abase and topics grow old
And embarrass in haughty, lofty merriment.

Keep my spirit strong and resilient
My mind incisive and resolved
To explore all realms of possibility
Search for every window and every door
and break out of the chains of probability

That i may seek to learn
What others want not to discern
Interests, ignorance, a plethora of motives
Compelling compliance
And competing perspectives

Initially they block and blind my way
but once i understand their nature and their folly
i am free to  move beyond
Slide through and around,
i am not bound.

It is this time of year that i am called upon to believe
to open up and retrieve
the possibility that lies within me
that i have so generously been gifted with
no longer bound by legend and myth.

Spring is here in Barcelona. Sun is shining bright. Temperatures have slowly crawled up the thermometer these past few days leaving the cold and dampness behind.  Birds are singing again and trees are blooming. Soon they will be greenwashed in tiny baby leaves bursting forth. I love spring!!!  I think it is my favourite season..oops no, not true.

Couldn´t imagine a year without the white blanket of snow in winter or the purple, reds and ambers of fall or the dazzling sun ricocheting off waves in summer. Ok, spring is one of my favourite seasons! :-)

Stand from where I am

Today is Canada Day
July 1st, 2012
I stand from where I am
to pay homage
to my grand land!

'Tis a land of strength
Tall firs
Deep lakes
Endless
Vast

I stand from where I am
A Canadian across the sea
On the shores of the Mediterranean
It´s Barcelona´s Sagrada Familia I see.

I miss the spirit
The friendly tu a tu
The jovial "it´s great to see you"
Our "come over whenever"
For anyone in need of a friend.

Humbled

I was humbled by her honesty
spoken straight from the heart
no desire to hide
what had been her art

Penniless and broken
she spoke with love and truth
more valuable than vulnerable
she explained it from the start

Her work spoke of beauty
of God´s presence
everywhere that she looked

The benevolent spirit she said
was at work creating good
and she was hooked

No longer could she see a face
nor hear a word
or partake in an event
without seeing his presence in every scene and scent

I was humbled by her grace
her certainty so clear
a light of love shone within
and reached out to those who could hear

Yes, I was humbled
by such grand grace
such kind courage
such visioning faith

Me who knew so little
humbled by this unseemingly sage.

La nit de Sant Joan

Sant Joan,
the summer soltice is just around the corner.
 Fireworks and beach bonfires,
 Coca de crema,
Coca de fruita and a copa de cava
The longest night of the summer...
 Simply divine!

Far from home

It´s been cold...
Wicked wind whirling forth
Waves washed up
Snow gifted us
with white wrappings
on palm trees and bare beaches

A Touch of Home!

There´s maybe only one thing better than having family come to visit and that is seeing Barcelona through the eyes of visiting family! Today was one of those days: a super sunny, sightseeing day! A jam-packed day of wandering the tiny, meandering streets of Barrio Gotico, taking in the majesty of the Catedral, observing Mass at Santa Maria del Mar, discovering tapas in el Borne, shopping on Las Ramblas and of course enjoying a beer or two at Port at the end of it all! I heard all about it when I picked up my brother and his family at the infamous Lichenstein pop art statue this evening.

It´s such a great city! And on days like today, when I am so grateful to have my family here, I am reminded of Barcelona´s beauty and enchantment!
